A visit to Cape Town is always great and many of the attractions compete for your children’s attention. The one that you simply can’t miss is the world famous Two Oceans Aquarium. It looks like the aquarium agrees with us to the point that it has extended it’s operational hours and will be open from 9:00 until 19:00 during 20 December until the 7th of January 2018. It gives us insight into the wonderful world of being under the waves and for your children it will frankly blow their mind. Sebastian sang “Darling it’s better down where it’s wetter. Take it from me” and we tend to agree.
There is so much to do like the penguin encounter where you can watch penguins at feeding time, the newly renovated predator enclosure (The Shark Tank) and the touch pool. Oh the touch pool!! Imagine how your child will light up when they realise that they can (carefully) touch critters. The Two Oceans Aquarium is also very successful at integrating education into fun. Areas like the Smart Living Challenge Zone aimed at older kids and compromises of four digital interactive stations, themes such as energy, water, waste and biodiversity.
The I&J Childrens Play Centre is not only educational but keeps more than 200 young kids busy with Giant puzzles, Puppetshows and Arts & Craft while overlooking the penguins play on a daily basis.
Tickets are a real steal at R165 an adult and R120 for a child, but you can get a 10% discount if you buy your tickets from the online shop on their website. You’ll also be able to book experiences and buy an array of books. Be sure to look out for our exclusive giveaway Puppet stories by Marquerite Venter, four interactive stories, I live Smart, I love Turtles, Keep the Beach Clean and My Wild Pets available in Afrikaans and English.
You can also become a member which will give you access to their “members only events”, such as the Family Sleep over or Camp at the Large Fish Tank on the 10th of December. That’s right! A sleepover not under the stars but Under the Sea.
With all the water they use, the aquarium is still dedicated to saving water with the water saving bathroom etc. They are so serious about saving water that they insist that you save water on your December vacation, regardless of where you go.
Some Tips: Stick to the Water usage limit per day, do not let the water run when you wash your hands and when you shower catch the water with a bucket to water some plant outside.
Be warned, a visit to the aquarium will be filled with Under the Sea and Nemo references, amazement and requests to go back.
